This new musical journey I’m on is a walk in the dark. I did not say walk in the park. I said DARK.
I’m half-joking, of course. That’s my awkward sense of humor kicking in. It’s my defense mechanism—my way of laughing to keep from crying. But if half of me is joking, the other half is scared to death.
In my past music career, I didn’t share songs with you until they were done. Polished. Produced. Ready for consumption.
But that’s not what I’m doing now.
This time around, I’m sharing songs with you in real time. I posted a verse of this song on my Instagram stories the moment I wrote it. I hadn’t even worked out the lyrics. I rhymed “you” with “you.” But I wanted to share it right then, in that raw, unfinished state.
Since then, I’ve written it, re-written it, and worked through the parts that felt off. I’m still not sure about the first verse—it might change again. But I want to take you along on this journey, so I’m sharing the process. I’m not holding anything back.
Just like any journey, songwriting requires constant movement forward in order to reach its destination. Sometimes you make a wrong turn, sometimes you hit a dead end, and sometimes you break down completely on the side of the road. But if you keep going, you’ll eventually find yourself in a place worth being. And more often than not, you don’t even realize you’re there until you look back.
Here’s a song. It may change, it may stay the same, or it may even fade away. But that’s part of the journey.
And I’m so grateful to be on it with you.
Thanks for walking alongside me. Let’s see where this road takes us.
