Lyrics

In the Bleak Midwinter
Original poem by Christina Rossetti, 1872

In the bleak midwinter, frosty wind made moan,
The earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Oh the snow had fallen, snow on snow, on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long long ago.

Angels and archangels they were gathered there,
Cherubim and seraphim filled up the air;
Oh but only Mary in her maiden bliss,
Worshipped the Beloved with a mother’s kiss.

Heaven can not hold Him, nor can earth sustain;
All Heaven and earth shall pass away Christ forever will reign.

What then can I bring Him, poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb;
If I were a Wise Man, I would know my part;
What then shall I give to Him: oh I will give my heart.

Oh all to Jesus I surrender

All to Him I freely give
